The New Yorker Promotion and Advertising Sections
Condé Nast · 1999–2003 · The New Yorker — promotion design: trade advertising, sales materials, event identity, and in-book special advertising sections
Creative Director: Robert Horansky Art Director: Paul Morris
The New Yorker's sales team had to put material in front of media buyers, and material inside the magazine, for a title whose entire value to an advertiser is how it looks — on a weekly close.

What I made
Promotion design, weekly. A trade ad built as a 35mm contact sheet — nine portraits, sprocket edges, frame numbers — with the message circled in red grease pencil. An "IMAGE IS EVERYTHING" poster gridding twelve photographs and illustrations above a black band. A space-close ad for the 2001 Money Issue. The Celluloid Sounds film-festival sponsorship kit, cut and printed as a silver record sleeve. And the in-book sections: "itinerary: smart travel" for Samsonite, headed Special Advertising Section, plus Iceland and Wailea travel pages.
Outcome
Angela Gaudioso, Director & Editor, Special Sections, The New Yorker: "In spite of weekly — sometimes, daily — deadlines, Paul brought his best stuff to the in-book projects we worked on… Clients also took notice, and his smart style helped to bring them back to the title's pages time and again."
